Unless all of your students are entering the classroom at exactly the same time, you will probably want to have some activity for the kids to do on their own while you wait for everybody to arrive. While you can change up the activities each week, it’s easiest if the activity is self explanatory and something kids can complete independently. That way, you do not have to keep explaining over and over again what to do. If kids are able to work independently, then you will be able to spend some time greeting students as they enter the classroom or getting to know students as you wait.
The activities can look very different depending on the classroom. Some people like to have a sheet for children to color, some put out toys like Legos or puzzles, and others put out a variety of activities so that kids have a choice.
Depending on how active and loud your group can get, you might want to provide quieter activities that do not require a lot of movement. Once kids start running around or yelling, things can get out of control quickly.
Ideally, you will be able to include activities that get kids thinking about the gospel and meditating on God’s Word. Below are some suggestions on activities to include. Some of the Bible Centered Activity Ideas include free printables for you to use.
